The Growing problem of Smartphone addiction
According to an article titled, “The Growing Problem Of Smartphone Addiction” by Brenda Priddy, smartphone addiction (main idea) is a big problem around the world that is getting worse (controlling idea).
In once sense, smartphones are great because they help us to communicate with our friends and family. However, overusing your smartphone can lead to serious consequences. For example, studies have shown that spending too much time on social media sites can actually lead to depression. Parents who spend too much time on their smartphones may neglect their children. Worst of all is when parents give their children smartphones to play with rather than giving them the attention that they need from their parents. This can lead to small children, even babies becoming addicted to smartphones - sad to say the least.
If you think you many be addicted to your smartphone, there are few things you can do to help yourself. Firstly, don’t be ashamed to admit your addicted. A huge amount of the population are addicted. Admitting to yourself that you are addicted is the first step to quitting the habit. Ask yourself, do you find it difficult to put your smartphone down for more than twenty minutes? If so, you too might be addicted. Can you go without checking your messages for more than 1-2 hours? If not, than you might be addicted.
If you are addicted to your smartphone, don’t be embarrassed or ashamed. Here’s what you can do help yourself. 1.Make a schedule for using your phone, socializing with your friends, doing homework, etc., and stick with it. Secondly, turn off all notifications on your phone, except for the phone ringer. This includes sounds (turn them off), lights and the vibration. Then practice living according to your schedule. Start out easy on yourself and slowly increase the amount of time that you don’t use your phone. You’ll see, there’s a whole other world out there for you to live.
