Essay/Presentation 6: Government Corruption

Good morning, everyone. Today, I want to talk about government corruption. Corruption happens when people in power, like politicians or leaders, use their position for personal gain. This means they may take bribes, steal public money, or give unfair advantages to their friends or family. For example, instead of choosing the best person for a job, they might choose someone just because they know them. This leads to unfairness and inequality in society, and people lose trust in their government. Corruption harms everyone because it wastes money that should be used to help the people. It stops progress and makes life harder for ordinary citizens. One way to solve this problem is to eliminate the government altogether. Without a government, there would be no politicians to take advantage of power. People could make their own decisions and create rules that are fair to everyone. We could work together as a community, without needing corrupt leaders. Of course, in a world without gover...

Essay/Presentation 6: How to Avoid World War 3

Image
Ladies and gentlemen, Today, I want to talk about a very important topic: How to avoid World War 3. We all know that peace is essential for a happy and safe world. To prevent another global conflict, we must focus on understanding and respecting each other. Firstly, communication is key. We should talk to each other and listen with open hearts. By understanding different perspectives, we can find common ground and solve problems peacefully. It's important to remember that violence only leads to more violence. Secondly, let's promote diplomacy and cooperation among nations. Instead of fighting, let's work together to address global challenges like climate change and poverty. Sharing resources and ideas can make the world a better place for everyone. Lastly, education plays a crucial role. By teaching tolerance and acceptance in schools, we can raise a generation that values diversity and values peace. Knowledge is power, and a well-informed society is less likely to resort t...

In the near future, AI is definately going to eliminate many human jobs due to its ability to perform tasks more efficiently and effectively than humans. AI systems can analyze large amounts of data and make decisions based on that data, which can lead to faster and more accurate results. For example, in the manufacturing industry, robots can do repetitive and dangerous tasks, which were previously done by humans. Similarly, AI-powered chatbots can provide customer support and answer frequently asked questions, reducing the need for human customer service representatives. However, this automation of jobs has a potential downside, as many people may lose their jobs and struggle to find new employment opportunities. To deal with this issue, policymakers andbusinesses need to work together to provide retraining and reskilling programs for workers who are affected by automation. Overall, while AI can increase efficiency and productivity, it is important to find ways to mitigate its negativ...

AU1 111-2 Essay/Presentation 2: Video Resume

Image
Hi everybody, my name is Thomas. I’m a 59 year old teacher who utilizes his time in the classroom relearning what it’s like to be young, carefree and innocent once again. The goal of this video presentation is simple: I would like to go on an overseas exchange teaching assignment to do some traveling, meet some exciting new people and learn more about different cultures. I'm changing the world, and for the next part of this adventure, I need your help. I’m not just an ordinary teacher who wastes time pushing students to do grammar exercises, "The cat jumped over the tree; the cat has jumped over the tree" and so on. No way, not for me. Instead, I teach young people about the world as it really is, what’s really happening during this time, and the skills we need to survive the coming apocalypse, the end of time.  So if you're wondering what the hell is going on in the world, or just need someone to set the record straight, just ask me. Are the governments lying to us; ...

June 2021: Making the most of My Situation

Image
Sunday yesterday felt like an elongated moment, wherein I (as time) seemed to take my time instead of finding more things to do and moving through them just to get them done. Perhaps this is because I have finally completed my preparations for the next couple of weeks of online classes. Here by myself in my apartment in the relatively small town of Wufeng, Taichung, Taiwan, I sometimes notice a space within myself that I might have once defined as loneliness. Nowadays, I simply breathe through it as part of my decision to untie myself from self-definitions, so as not to be defined, not even myself. A couple of very large birds just outside my main window have set up a nest, they and the geckos keep me company.   I used some class time the other day to teach students about sound symbolism and how to look and listen more closely to words. I said the word “pharmacy” very slowly to clearly enunciate its three syllables, pharm (farm) a (uh) cy (see), and I then asked them what sounds ...

---- 1102 Final Project: I Have a Dream

Image
Hi! My name is Thomas and I was born on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma during the  last years of what is called the Baby boomer generation. Although I love all of my brothers and sisters nowadays, back then it seems that we fought and argued a lot - at least until I was about 14 years old. That’s when my life changed in a big way for the better. As a child, my life was not so wonderful. My mother had 6 children and when I was 7, my dad decided that he didn’t want to be a dad any more. Yea, we were poor, so poor that I sometimes had to eat peanut butter for dinner and didn’t see my mom nearly as much as I would have liked to. She always seemed to be working or driving my other brothers and sisters to gymnastics practice. Nevertheless, she was an awesome mom. At the age of 14, I somehow got into a private high school and that’s when my life began to change for the better. With role models and a structured environment, I realized that I was not only very athletic, but also very int...

Patterns

Image
In looking at the news this morning, the first thing I noticed was the headline, Washington "One-China" Policy Dead As Pompeo Lifts Restrictions On US-Taiwan Relations. While this move will certainly have broad geopolitical implications for Taiwan and the rest of the Asia Pacific region, especially China, the timing is particularly interesting to me because it exactly aligns with what I told my students in September, 2020, was likely to happen in January or February of 2021 based on the outflow of events that I was noticing at the time. And if this pattern persists, I’m guessing that another headline soon to follow (aside from China once again threatening Taiwan) is likely to be news of a power shift taking place at the highest level of the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP. As far as storylines go, bad news for the emperor isn’t necessarily a bad thing.           As for the US, I guess that the news is also going to be getting better and ...
